Region:

An animation of how strenuous exercise affects heart rate.

Director's Notes:

Don’t have a video camera, but do have a digital stills camera? Great, you can still make a film — this was animated using Microsoft Powerpoint, with the soundtrack added there too.

SciCast Notes:

Nominee: Best Film by a Team which includes Primary School Students, 2008

I blithely suggested doing animations in PowerPoint some time ago, but I never thought anyone actually would. It was rather a shock, then, to receive this submission, because it meant that I had to work out how to produce a viewable movie from a PowerPoint presentation. I’ll spare you the gory details, but the film is well worth sharing.

I’m particularly fond of the soundtrack. It would have been easy enough to find a heartbeat sound effect from somewhere, but it’s so much more charming to use a microphone and do it yourself. Great idea.
