A space disaster movie, from a primary 7 class in Glasgow.

Director's Notes:

Glasgow teacher Steve McClintock reports:

The children found some propulsion experiments in one of the junior science textbooks in class and decided to use the ideas in a story. The group was my oldest group (all aged 11) and I think they wanted it to be a little more ‘Hollywood’. So the story isn’t particularly scientific but the propulsion experiments worked well.

The music clips come from here.

SciCast Notes:

Nominee: Best Entertainment Film, 2008

I’ll quite cheerfully admit that I’ve no idea what’s going on in this film. The rocket cars crack me up, though, and it’s great to see so much effort go into props, costumes, make-up, and sound design.

As for science content: this is one of those films where trying to spot the science is an exercise in itself. That sounds a bit rude of me, but actually I quite like it. There are at least three action/reaction rocket experiments in here…

Often the challenge with films like this is finishing them, because by the time you reach the end nobody can remember how it was supposed to start. So full marks to the group for delivering a finished film!
