Floating and sinking… in a shed.

Director's Notes:

Our film is an original idea called ‘Freds Shed’. We decided to create a comical science video with an element of fun, mixing a few simple experiments together to get an overall picture. It uses the main character Fred as a mad scientist and Susan and Einstein Junior are extras. We used a digital camera in video as we didn’t have access to a proper video camera and took hundreds of shots until we got them right! We used a science encyclopaedia to get the information and just worked with it from there as we are all drama students.

SciCast Notes:

Criticism first: trying to float a screw isn’t the most thrilling experiment the world has ever seen.

You know what? I don’t care. There’s a shed. And a stunt custard cream. And amusing shots of the stars at the end of the film. Sure, other films give more information, or feature more impressive or original demonstrations, or are more ambitious. But did the teams behind those films have more of a giggle than this lot? I doubt it.

Sometimes it’s enough just to enjoy making something with your friends. SciCast is for you, too.

Big thanks to this team. They’ve made my day.
