How the first three alkali metals react in water.
Director's Notes:
In this short film we explore how the first three alkali metals react in water. Based on a demonstration in Year 9.
SciCast Notes:
I love the explanation for why they’re not using the last three metals in group 1 — ‘they might blow your head off!’. OK, fair enough. Best not do that, then.
The film’s also notable for being well edited. Squeezing in a good squeaky hydrogen pop — great sound on that, by the way — can’t have been easy, but they’ve managed it, and the film benefits from cramming lots in.
If I’ve any criticism is that the group might have benefited from a little more rehearsal so they weren’t relying quite so much on their scripts, but hey, I’m not complaining.
Great stuff.
