The strong nuclear force explained with help from a giant balloon
Director's Notes:
Say the team:
Watch a nucleus explode and collapse and find out why in the real world this doesn’t happen. Information from AS Physics AQA textbook, experiment ideas our own.
SciCast Notes:
Impressive stuff, this. Advanced physics (we didn’t do this in school in my day, I can tell you), a balloon, and… that’s about it. But don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a snoozefest, it isn’t. The ballon’s a terrific prop — so much better to use this giant-size one than an ordinary party balloon — and mucking around at the end keeps it human. The dialogue is well-written too, with excellent delivery: clear, good pace, confident.
A terrific example of the ‘start simple; keep it simple; then make it yours’ approach.
