Bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, and whoosh!
Director's Notes:
Reaction between vinegar and baking soda, in a film canister. The resulting carbon dioxide gas builds up inside the canister until the pressure forces the lid off and… rocket!

This sort of thing is extremely hard to film — you have small things moving quickly. They’re always going to be hard to see.
You get a better view of the ‘rockets’ in this very early SciCast film, but this film gives a better idea of how they work.
