Iron Man’s Science Show demonstrates how magnetism can be used to make a compass.

Director's Notes:

Not so sure about appearing in front of camera? Here’s an easy solution — wrap yourself in kitchen foil. Sorry, what? It’s really a robot? Blimey. They’re getting more advanced by the week.

Here, Iron Man [surely ‘aluminium man’? —ed] demonstrates the basic properties of magnets, and how a magnetised needle can be used to make a compass.

SciCast Notes:

One of the mantras of SciCast is ‘start with something simple, then make it your own’ — a concept perfectly embodied in this film. Clear science, a nicely-filmed demonstration (good close-ups of the compass needles), and a pleasingly bizarre bit of silliness in the approach that doesn’t get in the way.

Worth watching to the end, too, for the little closing gag. Nicely done.
