A simple demo with marshmallows, a bottle, a pump, and a valve.
Director's Notes:
Team Parkside E write:
Investigating effect of pressure on marshmallows
…which doesn’t tell us all that much, unfortunately. The team consisted of three year 8 students (ages 12-13) — and that’s all we know!
SciCast Notes:
Great close-ups!
One of the things many SciCast films could do better is detail. If you’re putting marshmallows in a bottle, we know what they look like, so you can get away with us not seeing much very clearly. But if you’ve never seen one of these valve bottle stoppers before you really need to know what they look like — and this film gets that right. Which is brilliant, and rare.
To be fair, many cameras go a bit fuzzy when you try to take good tight close-ups, so you need to test yours carefully. But if yours will do the job well, make sure you use it. Fill the viewfinder with the thing that’s important. Watch this film again and see just how close they’ve got. They’ve done it absolutely right.
