Lung anatomy, with real sheep lungs. You have been warned.
Director's Notes:
Team Isaac and Daniel write:
We have tried to demonstrate what a punctured lung is and the problems that it can cause.
Just the two of us made the film. Our teacher was able to obtain the a set of lungs that had not been too badly damaged. Isaac demonstrated and Daniel did the filming. We are both 17.
Nominee, Best Biology Film (Secondary), 2010
SciCast Notes:
Now, the film is called ‘A Punctured Lung,’ but I hadn’t quite registered that when I double-clicked the file submitted by Isaac and Daniel. So when I looked up from my mug of tea I was mildly surprised to find my screen filled with fresh sheep innards.
But once you get past the minor gore, this is a terrific film. There’s no mucking about, which is a good thing in the circumstances but isn’t necessary anyway. The team trust in their subject, and they’re absolutely right to. Dissections are utterly fascinating, and all that’s needed is a friendly and informed guide to show us what’s particularly interesting.
So while this is the first SciCast film to feature a warning, we’ve absolutely no problem publishing it. It’s respectful, fascinating, clear, understated, and useful. A deceptively simple film that’s taken considerable planning and care to make.
