An animated film examining the planets of the solar system.

Director's Notes:

A quick spin around the solar system to look at all the planets, with a traveling spacefarer and an alien dog.

SciCast Notes:

Another Powerpoint-animated film from the Badminton group, who seem to have this technique sorted. I like the style very much, and while the result is somewhere between a film and a slideshow, at least there’s less work involved than in conventional stop-motion animation.

Two minor criticisms: firstly, some of the text in this film is a bit too small to read. It’ll be clear on the downloadable version of the film, but here it’s a bit blurry. Keep your text captions large, everyone!

Secondly, and also blurry, is some of the photography. It’s hard to take close-up shots like these, and here the models are too close for the camera to cope. Look for a ‘close-up’ mode, often represented by a flower symbol, and see if that helps. Otherwise, you’ll have to experiment and see if you get the best effect with the camera zoomed out and placed close to the scene, or zoomed in and placed further back.
