An MP joins us to help launch SciCast, by demonstrating how penguins insulate their feet. It makes more sense than you’d expect.
Director's Notes:
An unusual film from an unusual SciCast workshop — our launch event in South Yorkshire, back in May 2007. Local MP John Healey dropped in, and we spent the morning turning a big group of students into a polished and professional studio crew. We had four cameras capturing the range of shots (a wide of the whole thing, single shots of the presenter and Healey, and a close-up of the action), microphone boom operators, props hands, a clapperboard loader, and a floor manager to coordinate it all.
A frantic frantic morning getting ready, but when the moment came the group clicked into gear and everything went so smoothly I can remember muttering ‘Now what do we do for the next twenty minutes?’. A terrific team, and fair play to Healey for mucking in. We may not have mentioned the ice-cold water when we talked him into coming…
